Abuja, Nigeria — The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has raised alarm over alleged plans by the Accountant General of the Federation to release allocations of Osun State local governments to sacked APC chairmen and councillors, despite their removal by the court.
According to NULGE, the move is a direct attempt to preempt the Supreme Court, which is yet to deliver its judgment on the matter. The union described the step as “a dangerous abuse of process” that could further weaken democratic structures at the grassroots.
NULGE leadership warned that diverting funds to officials no longer recognized by law would not only deepen political tension in Osun but also undermine the financial autonomy of local governments across Nigeria.
They called on President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly to urgently intervene and stop what they termed “a brazen attempt to steal from the people.”
