Abuja, Nigeria — Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labor Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has announced he will be stepping back from public engagements—both domestic and international; for a short period. This decision follows medical advice after he began feeling unwell during recent events in Enugu.
In a statement shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Obi explained:
“Earlier in Enugu, I was not feeling well. I visited the hospital where the doctor gave me some medication and advised me to take a day or two days’ rest. In obedience to the doctor’s advice, I will not be able to meet up with all my scheduled engagements within and outside the country this weekend. I sincerely apologize for any inconveniences this might cause and humbly plead for understanding.”
Before his decision to rest, Obi had been active on the ground; attending a tourism event in Enugu and later donating ₦10 million to support the revitalization of Good Hope Specialist Hospital, Isulo, in Anambra State. He commended the Aguata Diocese’s plans to transform the hospital into a full-scale healthcare complex, including a School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Health Technology.
Despite the brief pause, Obi reaffirmed his commitment to healthcare development in Nigeria, especially his support for institutions like Good Hope Specialist Hospital.
